NOTE:  Joseph Dudley - was young when his father died - His mother md - Rev.
John Allin. His Stepfather (excellent) - sent him to college - graduated at
Harvard in 1665 (age 18). It was expected that he become a clergyman, but he
preferred political life. He was in King's Phillip's War - serving as Chaplain
for General Josiah Winslow - on his staff.

Later became: 1. Pres. of MA Council.
2. Chief Justice of the Supreme Court
3. Gov of the Colony - (in the Colony's interest - he went to Eng. - 3 times)
   While in Eng - in 1693 - he received form King William - a Commission as
lieutenant-Governor of the Isle of Wight - he continued there for 8 yrs. He
also served in - the House of Commons - in the last parliament of William III.
