When Civil War broke out - he was a student in Medical College. He rushed to the defense of his country, then returned to Yale and received diploma. He was apptd. - Medical Cadet in U.S. army many promotions, bravery awards etc. take prisoner - wounded, etc. - mustered out in 1865. NOTES FROM BACK SHEET: This brave young doctor - in adjunct general's report as follows: "Surgeon Dudley, an able and efficient officer, was under fire constantly; - Was in charge of the Division Hospital, yet was always to be found in the brunt of the battle, attending to the wounded. He was wounded at Gettysburg and was taken prisoner at Hatcher's Run, Oct. 1864, Voluntarily, through his zeal for the wounded." In the military and Civic History of Connecticut - it says: "Surgeon F.A. Dudley, who was constantly under fire, was wounded in the arm by the explosion of a shell, was a prisoner at Libby prison for 4 months, then rejoined his regiment at Petersburg, remaining with them until the close of the war, being mustered out at Hartford, CT 1865." Soon After war - came to Genoa, Cayuga, NY - became a practicing Physician from that time on. He is a member of - the Grand Army of the Republic. He is a Free Mason and a prominent member of Cayuga, Medical Society. In politics - a Republican and cast his 1st Vote for Abraham Lincoln in 1864. Dr. Dudley is "A MOST CULTURED GENTLEMAN" and deservedly enjoys respect and esteem from his fellow townsmen; and his patriotism is such that, although not a young man, he is ready to do again what he did in 1861, - should occasion require."
