NOTE:  
    1. Spent 15 yrs - VT Legislature - Helped get first school and first church - Loyal supporter of Pres. Madison. 
    2.  General Peter Dudley - In March 1800, with his young wife he went to Peru, VT. He purchased forest land and built a log cabin. In time, he built a large farm house and fields replaced forest. He became a prosperous farmer. General Dudley had - 15 grandsons - who were old enough to serve in
Civil War. (12 did serve) 7 of them as officers, 6 were wounded, 3 died in service.

NOTES ON BACK:  
    1. Possessed a strong and sturdy independence of character and was of the strictest integrity.
    2. Elected to VT legislature in 1810 - served by successive re-elections for 15 years.
    3. Between 1835-40 he was again elected for 2 or 3 yrs. in succession.
    4. He was liberal to all public improvements and enterprises.
    5. He was instrumental in getting the first school established and in having 1st house of worship erected.
    6. When military company was organized in Peru - he was elected its first captain. Then promoted to Colonel, and later brigadier-general of the Bennington County brigade.
    7. He served 1812-14, during 2nd war with Great Britain and was with his command in Plattsburgh compaign. He resigned from service in 1820.  He was a loyal supporter of Pres. Madison and advocated a vigorous
prosecution of the war.
