NAME: Wilcox or Wilcocks NOTES ON BACK OF SHEET: 1777, served as an offficer under William Barton in the capture of the British commander Maj. Gen. Prescott. The party in small boats passed near the British ships in the harbor, surprised the sentinel at Portsmouth and carried off the prisoners. To the sucessful captors the Assembly gave a vote of thanks with recommendation to the commander - in - chef for promotion to the brave volunteers. The year following Maj. Gen. Charles Lee, who had been taken prisoner in 1776, was exchanged for Maj. Gen. Prescott.
