Orlando Bolivar Wilcox - graduated in 1847 West Point Military Academy - served in Mexican War as Lieutenant, resigned 10 September 1857, practiced law in Detroit 1858-1861, appointed Colonet 1st Michigan Vols. 1 May 1861 - served in Civil War, Brigadier General, of regulars for gallant and merritorious service in Battle of Spotsylvania , etc. etc... 2. From the above book ( LHR 920-073D) Orlando Bolivar Willcox - Soldier - appointed a cadet at West Point in 1843 - graduated 1847 - ranking 8th in a class of 38 and was promoted to 2nd Lieutenant in the 4th artillery. He joined his regiment in Mexico, and returned home with it in 1848. On 10 September 1857, he resigned his commission, and entered upon the practice of law in Detroit with his brother Eben N. Wilcox. During the Civil War - he was commissioned Colonel of the 1st Michigan Infantry. At Bull Run - he was wounded and captured. He remained a prisoner for over a year, for several months in close confinement as a hostage for Confederate privateersmen in the hands of the United States, whose status as prisoners of war/was under question. Exchanged 19 August 1862 - at this time he was made Brigadier General of Volunteers. In 1889 he was made Governor of the Soldier's Home in Washington, and after completing this tour of duty resided for a time in that city. In 1905 he took up his residence in Coburg, Ontario, where he remained until his death. 3. He was the Author of "An Artillery Manual" and "Dealing with Army life and with Detroit" - both books were published under the pen-name of "Walter March".
