NOTES:    1. A Lifelong Democrate.
            2. He taught School, worked in Textile Mill and a clerk - In
               1881 he and son John Herbert began a Business together -
               "J.W. Jewell and Son" - His son died 12 years after the
               business began. Father sold business and retired.  1891 he
               moved to Dover, New Hamphshire - took charge of office -
               Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company. Became director
               and Vice President of a Bank. In Strafford - he held most
               of Town Positions - was Sheriff - 1874 to 1876 - A Member
               of Government's Council. Also assisted Soldiers of the
               Rebellions with their pensions. Ten years - Postmaster -
               was Justice of Peace.  In 1903 - elected to Legislature.
               Belonged to fraternal group - Order of the Golden Cross.
