NAMES: Margaret/Margret (mother)
NOTES: Husb became a tavern keeper in Cumberland, RI. Also did blacksmithing
& surveyor of highways.  In 1776 appointed by Legislature to raise arms for
town of Cumberland. He and Jonathan Holman in 1779 bought 90 acres of land at
Diamond Hill-with the privilege of l/4 part of all iron dug up on the land. The
other 3/4 belonged to John Dale, original owner. They had mining business.

TITLE: Honorable John Russell Bartlett (Child #2)
NOTES: Husb was merchant; moved to Canada in 1806;
          The Upper Canada Herald, at Wife's death, paid a glowing tribute to her
memory. The funeral sermon was preached by Rev. Alexander Fletcher and was
printed at Kingston. For a full acct of the family of Smith Bartlett see

John Russell Bartlett (Child #2)-Two of his sons at present holding commissions
in the U.S. Navy. John Russell was (1) a distinguished author; (2) a member of
various learned Societies; (3) was appointed by Pres. Zachary Taylor to fix the
boundary lines between Mexico and the United States; and (4) was Secretary of
State of Rhode Island-17 yrs.
