After he married he made his home in Meriden, CT, Until his death the family lived in NY in the winter, in Short Beach, CT, in the summer, in a house which was Mrs Wilcox's pride and also an aesthetic nightmare, because the traveled much. After Robert Marius Wilcox died, Mrs Wilcox became a Spiritualist and also a Theosphist and belived firmly that her husband spirit guided her minutest actions. 3. (wife) Ella Wheeler Wilcox , age 9 years wrote her First Novel, Age 14, her first essay published, by the time she was age 18, whith prizes and magazine publications - she was earning a substantial income. In 1867 her parents sent her to the University of Wisconsin, it seemed this was not what she wanted or could use, she came home at the end of the term. She was a feminine Edgar A. Guest of her day. (from Webster' Biographical Dictionary) 4. Ella, tried to repair the farm for the visit of her Robert, his first visit - she couldn't change her family, the visit was a great trial for her. Her father once went to a Phrenologist, he finally got a mental illness. She was 5 feet 3 inches tall. Robert had stood this first test - visiting her family. 2nd test - She dabbled in Psychic Phenomena, she vistited a Medium, she went in Connito - she was warned not to Marry ( an earlier man). she was now age 28 and about to marry the man of her dreams. She had triumphed over poverty and monotony. She wrote her autobiography at the age of 63 5. Ella Wheeler Wilcox's "American Journalist and The Poet," died in Short Beach, New Haven, CT - prior to this she had been in a Nursing Home in Bath, England.
