    1. Obituary of Joseph Marion Dargitz

    Joseph Marion Dargitz, son of Harmon and Margaret Dargitz, was born on January
    1, 1852, in Morrow County, Ohio, and died at his home in Northwest township,
    Williams County, Ohio, on Nov. 24, 1936, at the age of 84 years, 10 months and
    23 days.

    At the age of four years he came with his parents to Williams county,
    Ohio, which has been his home ever since.

    On Nov. 16, 1875, he was married to Miss Sarah Kimmell, who preceded him in
    death March 14, 1921. To this union were born four children: Mrs. Clara A.
    Harwood, Mrs. Jennie M. Brosy, Bertha A., now deceased, and Harvey B. Dargitz.
    After receiving his education he taught in the district schools for several
    years before engaging in farming.

    He gave liberally of his time and energy for the advancement of religious,
    educational and civic projects of every kind, holding many offices of trust and
    responsibility. The young and old alike were much interested in his opinion of
    affairs, and the valuable advice which he generally gave out of his years of
    experience was gratefully appreciated.

    For nearly fifty years he was a member of the Northwest Grange in which he took
    an active part. At the last session of the National Grange, a few weeks ago in
    Columbus, he was initiated into the Seventh or National degree, together with
    his son, Harvey, and his grandson Dale. This afforded him a great deal of
    pleasure.

    In 1878 he united with the Eagle Creek Methodist Episcopal church, transferring
    his membership to the West Eagle Creek Presbyterian church in 1889. He was
    ordained as an elder in 1895, during the pastorate of Rev. D. M. Marshman,
    faithfully discharging his duties as clerk of the Session for a long period of
    years.

    He was a life-long student of the Bible, spending much time in reading and
    Bible study. Just a few weeks ago he talked to a Sunday school class after the
    value of the references in connection with the lessons.

    He was a wonderful husband and father,--generous, kind and good; he was a
    respected citizen and an esteemed neighbor and friend. He was a noble and
    faithful Christian, true to the church. His faith never wavered; his love for
    humanity never faltered; his hope of immortality was as a bright and shining
    star that shone more and more with each succeeding day.

    He leaves to mourn their loss, besides his bereaved children, six
    grandchildren, one great grandchild, one brother, H. A. Dargitz of Edon, Ohio,
    and a host of other realtives, friends and neighbors.

    He was an example of what a good man can be by the grace of God, and the memory
    of his character and the influence of his life will abide as a lasting
    blessing,--(Proverbs 4:18).
