    1. Obituary

Walter Lowe Haines, son of John and Mary (Waterston) Haines, was born in
Bridgewater Township Feb. 5, 1873 and passed away at the hospital in Angola,
Ind., March 8, 1927, aged 54 years, one month and three days.

On March 31, 1897 he was united in marraige to Ellen Ingram, and to this happy
union were born five children, four daughters and one son, all of whom survive
    him.

On June 18, 1917 death deprived him of his beloved comopanion, since which time
with his children around him he still maintained the home, now made sacred to
them forever by the hallowed memories of him.

In the daeth of Mr. Haines our community loses one of its best known and most
highly respected citizens. Only a few days ago he seemed so strong and
vigorous in health that it is now difficult to realize he has gone from among
us. We are led to say with the Psalmist: "Lord, make me to know mine end, and
the measure of my days, what it is: that I may know how frail I am."

Mr. Haines was ambitious to succeed especially for the sake of those who
depended upon him. He was devoted to his family, and did not spare himself to
    make them comfortable and happy.

It was always a pleasure to meet him. The Grange, the community at large, and
especially the members of his family wukk greatly miss him. He leaves five
children, three grandchildren, his mother, one sister, three brothers and many
    other relatives and friends.

"The odor of a fragrant flower doth last
    Long after outweard loveliness is gone;
So when a beautious life seems spent and past,
The sweetness of its influence liveth on."

Funeral services were conducted in the First U. B. church of Montpelier
Thursday afternoon (March 10th) at two o'clock, in charge of Rev. L. E. Ames.
Appropriate and beautiful music was rendered by Mr. Irving Miller and Miss
Verle Kirk, accompanied by Mrs. L. E. Ames. The body was laid to rest in
    Riverside Cemetery.
