He married his first cousin, Martha Fones at Groton, Co. Suffolk, Feb 8 1630. She was the sister of Elizabeth Fones. His brother Henry married Elizabeth. Martha died at Ipswich, Mass in 1634. John died april 5 1676 in Boston, Ma at 70 yrs of age.
BIOGRAPHY: Among second generation New Englanders, there was none more attractive figure than John Wintrop, Jr. Founder of 3 towns, industrialist, scientist, doctor, governor, diplomat, farmer, land speculator, he reflected the almost every aspect of his burgeoning society. Religion framed his life but he did not experience his father's crusading zeal. He was energietic and public spirited, but preferred science to politics.. Whereas the elder Winthrop wrote didactic tracts and diaries of religious meditations, the son kept medical and alchemical notebooks.
