Charles Sr. ROE
BIOGRAPHY: Like his father and grandfather, he was a farmer and shoemaker. HIs Grandson, Charles B. Roe, described him as about 5 ft 9 or 10 inches tall and weighing about 150 lbs. His hair was black.IN accordance with the customs of the time he wore knee breeches. He was quick and active in his movements and a great worker. In one day he made thirty sugar troughs and a pair of shoes and attended a barn raising in the afternoon. In 1806 Charles Roe is mentioned as one of the leading men in the Baptist Society of Dayton. DEATH: His son, William, was appointed administrator of the estate and lived on the parental farm. Charles died 5 days after his wife Barsheba died 18 Aug 1838. BURIAL: Charles and Barsheba are buried on their farm about 5 miles north of South Bend.
BIOGRAPHY: As an adult, Barsheba Watson, daughter of Michael and Mary Watson, was "heavy set" weighing 160 or 170 lbs. She was somewhat inclined to take life easy but was a good housekeeper. She had a fine black riding horse, which was kept, for her excusive use. She died 5 days before her husband Charles Roe died. She and he were buried on their farm where several of their grandchildren had been previously buried. BIRTH: BArsheba may have been born in Mason County, Ky according to the Book:"THe Refugees of 1776 freom Long Island to Connecticut" by Frederic Gregory MAther pages 531-532.

BIOGRAPHY: Mahala was a "New Light" preacher. She was a religious leader and capable public speaker. They resided at Hagerstown and had no children.
MARRIAGE: He apparently had 9 sons and 2 daughters BIOGRAPHY: At age 60 he was apparently a gardiner according to the 1860 census.

BIOGRAPHY: They were members of the Olive Branch Methodist Episcopal Church, northeast of Hagerstown, Wayne County, Indiana
BIOGRAPHY: Daniel Roe and his son, William, accompanied Joseph Covenay on a trip to California during the 49' gold rush.Daniel and possibly the others also, returned by ship around Cape Horn. He brought back a thousand dollars in gold with which he purchased additional land. William was ill upon return and spent most of his gold before reaching home. Daniel Roe died of tuberculosis.
