Notes on the Family Haneberg/Schwoon, by Martin Lottermoser
Immigration: 29 April 1878 to New York from Bremen, Germany aboard the "S.S. Donau." Emigrated to Hawaii at age 27 and was engaged in the sugar cane business with his brother, Adolph. They also owned and managed a sheep farm in Humu'ula, southeast from Mauna Kea, Hawaii. The children listed here for August and Mary Keala Kalai were not August's. Otto is very much in question as a member of this family. In August's will, he wrote: "To pay the balance of the net income of my said trust estate in equal shares to my four adopted children, being the children of Mary Keala, namely to Johanne Haneberg Correa, Emma Desha, Henry Haneberg and George Haneberg, as long as they respectively shall survive..." It appears that Ida Margaret also was not a child of August. Emma and Johanne were adopted as adults on 11 July 1913, four months after the death of his wife, Henriette. August became a US citizen on 8 October 1904 in Honolulu.
Was raised by his mother's father. He later changed his name to his grandfather's surname: Luke Louis Lukela Ukauka.
He married Mary Keala Kalai 16 Jul 1889 at Olowalu, Maui, Hawaii . Mary Keala Kalai was born at Huleia, Kauai, Hawaii 18 Jun 1870 daughter of Kalaie Kaae Kauhini and Kanekapolei .
