Notes:
My Grandfather was an avid fisherman and took many trips with his fishing buddies.
He and my Grandmother took trips to flordia every summer. They lived on HillCrest Drive in Lima Ohio, and they also had a cottage at sassafas point, russel's point, indian lake, Logan co, Ohio.Where the family spent many happy times, today the cottage is still their and now owned by Millard's grandaughter LisaMarkel. I can remember the hugh stone fireplace, the old feather bed in one ofthe three bedrooms, you sank in the middle of the bed it was so soft.the frontporch where my grandfather had his fishing poles hanging on the walls.the bar room where he hung his big fish he had caught, the old ice box in the bar with the motor on top, which is still there and still works, the old wooden bar,We spent many wonderful times their.
When the granchildren were young, we spent Christmas day at their house, I can remember the first thing you had to do was posefor my grandfather's movie camera, you had to leave on your coat and walk through the house as he took his movie, and than took off you coat and he spent therest of the day with that camera in your face, it was his greatest joy.
My Grandmother spent the day in her kitchen cooking a fantastic christmas dinner, after dinner we got to open presents, and spent the the evening playing with our toys. My Grandmother was the matriarch of the family and if you did something she didn't like all she had to do was look at you and you knew you better stop. But she was a very loving grandmother, all the grandchildren call her Dutchie.Ibelieve she was raised in a strict family as the stories her daughter has toldme,Her daughter Marica is still living and I have gotten many great stories from her.
My grandmother's great great grandmother's name was Eliza Duckworth and she was a strict women, my grandmother's story to my aunt goes, "I use to chew what is now called gum, than called wax,we would be visiting my gg grandmother and she would say to me, Rowena let me see you wax,I would show her and she would throw it away". I didn't like her.
Another story told to me by Marcia waswhen, Marcia & Mary Joan where small their was only 15 months between them andmy grandmother use to tie the girls to a tree, so she could keep track of them, when she stopped doing this Mary use to go into the alley by their house andset fire to the alley as well as setting toilet paper or anything else on fire, thus the rope came back out.
My aunt Marcia is now 78 years old and going strong we talk alot and she has lots of stories left.
