"SAMUEL GUILE,1(*) brother of John Guild, was for a briefperiod at Dedham, and appears to have been one of the firstsettlers of Newbury, but did not remain long, for in 1640 hewas one of the twelve who settled Pentucket, now known asHaverhill. He was made a freeman by the General Court in 1642,and married Sept. 1, 1647, JUDITH DAVIS, daughter of JamesDavis, one of the original settlers, and an emigrant fromMarlborough, England. By careful examination of the records wedo not find that he was interested to any degree in town orchurch affairs. In 1650, Samuel Gild made choice of land atLittle River. In 1652, Samuel Gild received ten acres of thesecond division. In 1658, Samuel Guile enters into an agreementfor the support of a blacksmith, and receives land in thethird division. Samuel Gilde senior built a cottage about 1660,and in 1663 received land from the fourth division. He diedFeb. 21, 1683.
