    as recorded on 1850 Iowa Census  -- but could be Braintree, MA 1794-1796 as illegitimate son of John Quincy Adams
    Life: Bloomingdale (Bloomfield) Parke Co, Indiana, Monthly Meeting
    records (date not given): married Hannah Holiday, who was born 13 May
    1795, daughter of William and Jane Holiday.
    4 June 1831: Payton Wilson dismissed (reason not given).
    Paoli, Orange Co, Indiana Monthy Meeting records 31 May 1817: Hannah
    Wilson (formerly Holaday) dismissed for marrying contrary to discipline.
    He arrived in Salem, Henry Co, Iowa, in 1837 according to Quaker history.
    (From handwritten note by VEH) 'Hogdriver and buyer. US Senator from
    Iowa (most likely confused with his being senator from his county to the
    Iowa Legislature - a fairly well established item). Illegitimate son of
    John Adams and raised by a Holiday family.')

    Census 1850, Hinshaw's Quakers-Bloomingdale and Salem and Spring(NC),
    1820 census Orange Co Ind 4:208 and 1830 Parke Co 11:180.

    History of Vigo and Parke Co 1880 (notes): (page 169) Reserve Township
    LINEBERGERS  (1822)... the other early settlers being Warren DAVIS,
    Daniel WICKERSHAM, Abraham HOLLIDAY, the MORRIS family, PEYTON
    WILSON, Jeremiah SILER, and others (SE part of Reserve Township).
    (page 275): 1824-5 members of Society of Friends came to Penn
    Township. Rubottom, PAYTON WILSON, Jacob HOCKETT, J.N. and Adam
    SILER, PICKARD, MOTE, others.
    (page 282): first meeting of the Society met 1825 at the residence of
    Adam SILER for one year and then Bloomingdale and Rocky Run Meetings
    established.  Samuel RUBOTTOM until 6th mo, 5 1826 - KELLY, PAYTON
    WILSON, N NEWLIN etc appointed to survey.
    1828: the great Hicksite division in Indiana.
    4 June 1831: those appointed to prepare a testimony of denial against
    PAYTON WILSON produced one which was approved and signed.  Solomon
    ALLEN and Aaron OVERMAN are appointed to offer him a copy thereof  and
    inform him of his right of apeal and report the next meeting.
    7th mo 6 1831: those appointed to offer PAYTON WILSON a copy of the
    testimony against him report the action was complied with (minutes
    contain many, many similar actions).
    Oct 1827: Hannah WILLSON requested her right of membership with that
    of her children be conveyed to Vermillion Monthly Meeting whereupon Wm
    PICKARD and Zachariah MORRIS were appointed to unite with a like
    committee of the Women's Meeting to make the necessary inquiry and if
    they found nothing to hinder, they were directed to produce a certificate
    of their rights of membership to the next Monthly Meeting.
    Nov 1837: certificate produced of her right of membership with that of
    her children which was approved and signed.
    1830 Census Schedule for Parke Co, IN page 91/180:  Newton (?Peyton)
    Wilson - 2 males 5 to 10 (Wm and Sam??) and 1 30 to 40 (Paton?) -- and
    females 2 under 5 (Jane and Ursula ?), one 5-10 (Sarah?), one 30-40
    (Hannah ?) and 1 70-80 (???)  -- and Amaos Snook 1 male and 1 female
    20-30.
    Deaths (page 23) Deborah Wilson 16 May 1827, age 8 years 9 months,
    buried in Bloomfield - dau of Paton Wilson. (complaint: Colu Sittlia on
    the Nervus (sp))
    Record of Deaths Bloomfield MM Prep Meeting: Deborah Wilson,
    5-16-1827 cold settled in the lungs 8 yrs 9 mons. Buried 1st row #7.

    1827 Mens Minutes Bl MM: Paton Wilson at opening of MM (page 2) 10 mo
    12 1827. Page 4 appointed with others to survey for a meeting house and
    a grave yard.
    1838, 5th mo, 3d: The Friends in the neighborhood of Peyton WILSON
    request the privilege of holding a meeting to worship amongst
    themselves on the First and Fifth days except the Fifth day following the
    Preparation Meeting -- not approved.  (Deep River MM Guildford Co, NC
    mentioned)
    Paton WILSON appointed to screen pamphlets as doctrine.
    Appointed with others to see that each family has Old and New
    Testaments.  Appointed to raise funds for 'Indian concern'.
    Again, 1830-- much trouble with Hicksite doctrine.
