He lived in the old Scoville homestead in Waterbury. He was commissioned in October of 1737 Lieutenant of the Waterbury Military Company. He served on school committees and was chosen deputy to the General Assembly in May, July and August of 1745 which was held because of the war with France. Lt. John Scoville died intestate, leaving a large estate. He was a prudent manager and a good business man.
He married Hannah Richards 6 Feb 1693 at Farmington, Hartford, Connecticut . Hannah Richards was born at Farmington, Hartford, Connecticut Jun 1670 daughter of Obadiah Richards and Hannah Andrus .
