    MARY VEREN (widow)

    Lt. THOMAS PUTNAM married, second, at Salem, 14th, 9 mo., 1666, MARY VEREN 
    widow of NATHANIEL VEREN a rich merchant formerly of Salem, Mass. They had 
    one daughter, MARY VEREN who married, in 1673, TIMOTHY LINDALL. Their 
    children were TIMOTHY, JANE, JANE BORLAND, THOS. L. WINTHROP, and the Hon.  R.
    C. WINTHROP VEREN who was born May 12, 1809.

    Thomas and Mary Putnam had one son, JOSEPH PUTNAM, born 14 Sept. 1669 in 
    Salem, Essex Co., Mass., and baptized 4 Sept. 1670.  He died there  1724-25.
    Joseph was opposed to Mr. Parris and the witchcraft trials.

    In his will Thomas Putnam left his wife and son Joseph "all that my house  &
    ground in the town with all its aprtences & privileges according as is 
    mentioned & bounded in my said wives bill of sale (which said house and 
    ground my said wife bought of Phillip Veren before her marriage) to  possess &
    Enjoy the same the term of my said wives natural life, after  my decease...
    I give to Mary my beloved wife, fifty pounds out of my estate  after my
    decease, the plate to be a part, as Inventoried; & the rest out  of any of my
    other goods as she pleases:....  I doe appoint and ordain my  beloved wife
    Mary to be my executrix, & my son Joseph executor Jointly  together with his
    mother, of this my last will and testament."
