He died before July 13, 1642, when a grant was made to "the widow Asten." She was Isabella, daughter of John Bland (sometimes called Smith). She marriage, second, as early as 1644, Thomas Leavitt, who had been living in Exeter, but came to Hampton and lived on the Asten homestead--now the residence of John C. Marton. . . . "

A few years later, Mar. 25, 1666, he bought of Giles Fifield, who had been a resident of Hampton but was then of Charlestown, Mass., "one dwelling- house and house-lot," containing ten acres, together with six acres of marsh; the house and lot being in Hampton "between ye ground of Jno Garland on ye West; a common way on ye East; another common way on ye South; and common on ye North; also two shares of commanage." This homestead has ever since been, wholly or in part, in possession of his descendants, and is now owened by Eldredge A. Knowles, of the seventh generation. John knowles as blind during the last ten years of his life. . . . "
