Joseph Dow, HISTORY OF THE TOWN OF HAMPTON, NEW HAMPSHIRE, FROM ITS SETTLEMENT IN 1638, TO THE AUTUMN OF 1892 (Salem, Mass.: Salem Press Publishing and Printing Co., 1893), 709-10: "Samuel Fogg came to Hampton a few years after its settlement and received grants of several tracts of land. He bought the home- stead of Capt. Christopher Hussey (the Anthony Emery place), Captain Hussey having removed to his farm on the Falls side of the town. In the second review of old grants, made in 1658 (pp. 58, 59), and recorded on the town book, were found grants to "Samuel Fogge of Hampton," in part as follows: "1. Impris: Eight Acres & Halfe of upland bought of Mr. Hussey, being the one half of His grant in the East field lying between the medow of the sd Samuel Goff towards the East and the land of William Moulton sometimes Mr. Husses towards the West, abutting upon the High Waye towards the East, & the land of Will. Sanborn towards the West, bee it more or less as it is layd outt. 3. Itt. A quarter of an acre of land in the Meeting house green the wh was granted to John Cross sometimes of Hampton, & by the sd John Crosse sold unto Roger Shaw and by the sd Roger Shaw given to Samll Fogge and so appointed by the town to ly adjoining to that peece of land whereupon his House standeth wch was formerly Mr. Husseys: being bounded with the sayd peece of land towards the south & otherwise soe bounded with the Meetinghouse Green, more or less as it is layd outt." In the drawing for lots at the New Plantation, six years after the first survey in 1663 (pp. 64-65), Samuel Fogg drew lot number sixty--one hundred acres. He must, therefore, have owned two shares or more of the common at that time. The farm now owned by Mr. John H. Fogg was, without much doubt, included in his possessions, though no homes were then built so far away from the chief settlement. This farm has never been conveyed by deed, but has passed down from generation to generation, by virtue of the original grant. Samuel Fogg, married, first, Dec. 12, 1652, Ann daughter of Roger Shaw; second Dec. 28, 1665, Mary, daughter of Robert Page. . . .
