Thomas TRACY, LT.
This individual has the following other parents in the Ancestral File: William /TRACY/ (AFN:1P3N-6K) and Anne /SHAKERLY/ (AFN:29KZ-CB) Sources are: (1) Vital records of Norwich, New London, Connecticut vol 1, and (2) History of Norwich by Frances Manwaring Caulkins. Jonathan was age 50 in 1698 and Solomon was age 46 in 1697. Norwich was created in 1659 and Middlesex was created in 1785. John and Thomas could have been born in Westerfield and other children were probably born in Saybrook. Lt. Thomas Tracy was one of the original settlers in Saybrook and one of the original settlers in Norwich. Lt. Thomas Tracy came to New England in April 1636 and was enrolled at Salem, Feb 23, 1637. He settled in Wethersfield in about 1640. He was not married to the widow of Edward Mason (probably the son of John Mason who was one of the original founders on Norwich). This can be proven by looking at the records in Wethersfield Connecticut. The Widow Mason, wife of Edward Mason, died in 1659 and in the disposition of her property she was called the Widow Mason. This proves that she did not remarry after his death. They lived in Saybrook for 12 to 14 years. Thomas moved to Norwich with six sons and one daughter. It is not known if his wife was living when he moved to Norwich. The second wife of Lt. Thomas Tracy was Martha, widow of John Bradford (married in 1676) and his third wife was Mary, daughter of Nathaniel and Elizabeth Foote of Wethersfield and widow of John Stoddard (he died in 1664) and also widow of John Goodrich of Wethersfield (he died in 1680).
John married Mary Winslow at Duxbury Mass. She died July 30, 1721.
Thomas's wife name is not known. It is thought to be Sarah and they were married about 1687.
A rough headstone in Preston with the letters J.T. and date 1711 is susposed to point out the grave of Jonathan Tracy (born 1646). A Jonathan Tracy died 25 Feb 1704 in Preston. It was thought that this Jonathan Tracy was the son of Jonathan Tracy born in 1646. However, upon careful research and analysis of the records, it becomes evident that the Jonathan Tracy who died on 25 Feb 1704 was the first Jonathan. The evidence that supports this is the marriages and deaths of the wives of the two Jonathan's. Jonathan Tracy (the first) married Mary Griswold on 11 July 1672. Mary Griswold died 24 Apr 1711 (found in vital record of Preston vol 1 page 13). Jonathan Tracy (the second) married Anna Palmer on 11 Feb 1700 (found in vital record of Preston vol l page 31). Anna Palmer Tracy died before 1711. Jonathan Tracy (the second) then married Mary Richards 21 Aug 1711. Jonathan Tracy (the second) then died sometime between the marriage date and the end of the year in 1711. His widow, Mary Richards Tracy, then married Eleaser Jewitt on 3 Sep 1717 as found in Norwich vital records vol 1 page 56. Sources are: (1) Norwich, New London, Connecticut vital records Vol 1. and (2) Preston, New London, Connecticut vital records Vol 1. Preston was created from Norwich and Middlesex County was created in 1785 from New London, Hartford, and New Haven counties. Jonathan Tracy (the first) was the first town clerk, the first lieutenant, and the first justice of the peace of the town of Preston, New London Connecticut. Jonathan Tracy (the first) and his brother Thomas Tracy (the second) were among the first settlers of
