Notes:
Historical information included in notes George married Katherine when she was twenty years old. They were married by the Rev. John Player, a minister & pastor of a congregation called "Independence".After their marraige GEORGE & KATHERINE lived for a time in the Parish of St. George the Martyr, and then later removed to London. Two children were born in the Parish of St. George the Martyr. Namely, GEORGE JOHNSON, JR., & KATHERINE JOHNSON.GEORGE JOHNSON,SR. was a merchant and went trading to the colony of Virginia and the province of Maryland. He finally settled in Annemessex, on the Eastern Shore of Maryland, later known as Somerset County. This is where his wife, KATHERINE BUTCHER JOHNSON joined him in the year 1663. Her journey from England, by way of New England to Maryland. KATHERINE, the daughter of GEORGE & KATHERINE, was with her mother, but her brother GEORGE JOHNSON, JR. was left in England to be apprenticed to a watchmaker. The exact date of GEORGE JOHNSON, SR'S. arrival at Northhampton Co., Virginia is not known, but records show that he was living there as early as January of 1660 and June of 1661. He was apparently residing there in March of 1662/63 as well. It is quite apparent that his trading ventures were lucrative for him to be so prominent in local/community affairs and thus he layed the foundation of the extensive estate which was his in later years. In his will which was made on November 23, 1680, GEORGE JOHNSON,SR., son of EDWARD, and grandson of William writes his will and leaves his estate to his beloved wife KATHERINE BUTCHER JOHNSON, eldest child of his brother JOHN JOHNSON who was residing in Woburne, New England, eldest child of his sister Sarah Johnson, his brother EDWARD Johnson, his brother William Johnson, the eldest child that shall be living at the time of his death of his brother William, his daughter KATHERINE GODDEN, wife of JOHN GODDEN, eldest child of KATHERINE GODDEN, second child of his brother JOHN JOHNSON, eldest child of his son George JOHNSON, second child of his sister SUSAN PRENTICE, youngest child of GEORGE JOHNSON of Muddy Creek in Accomac Co., Virginia. There is no absolute proof of the relationship of the GEORGE JOHNSON in the previous will to AFFRADOZI JOHNSON. The rent rolls of Somerset Co., Maryland for 1663-1723 shows that THOMAS PURNELL, had 200 acres "Paggan"surveyed on July 26,1679 for WILLIAM STEVENS and assigned to TIMOTHY PADDON the seaboard side near Mattapony in the possesion of AFFRADO.JOHNSON at page 96. Cold Harbor was surveyed on December 15, 1683 for THOMAS PURNELL 235 acres in the possession of Affrado. Johnson, 90 acres in the possession of John Purnell, page 98. Affradozi Johnson purchases in July 1710 from John Goddin 200 acres of the tract "Rochester" on the south side of the Pocomoke River, near its headwaters. He resided there until his death. His plantation was next to the land of GEORGE TRUITT, & JOHN GODDIN about 5 miles northeast of Snow Hill, Maryland. The Rochester tract was surveyed February 10, 1682 and contained 2009 acres. Thomas Purnell on February 9th, 1678 & Sarah his wife, had sold Dorman's Delight near the Nanticoke River to Christopher Nutter. The Truitts, Goddins, & Johnson's were all Quakers. GEORGE JOHNSON,SR. was more than likely buried in the Quaker graveyard nearby. The Quaker meeting was known as Bogertmorton Meeting.
