Historical information included in notes At the time that his father left him a maid servant in his will, George Johnson, Jr. was living at Muddy Creek, near Guilford, Virginia. George Jr., did not accompany his mother, Katherine Butcher Johnson to the United States in 1663, instead he remained in London, where he was apprenticed to a watchmaker to learn the trade of watchmaking. Some records state that he only had one child, namely Ann Johnson who was listed as a spionster living in the Parish of St. Paul's Covent Garden, Middlesex Co., England at the time of her marraige to Robert King of Somerset Co., Maryland. Ann is said to be the daughter and only child of GEORGE JOHNSON, JR. late of the same place (Parish of St. Pauls') who was a watchmaker before his death, and was the only son of George Johnson late of Somerset Co., Maryland, deceased. Ann did marry Robert King. The lands called "Straights & Johnsons'" totlaing 900 acres had formerly been patented by George Johnson, grandfather of the said Ann. Now we havce found the following records that show that GEORGE JOHNSON,Jr. had more than one child. The following document is found in Accomac Co., Virginia regarding the early JOHNSON family settlers.
