                   Pannie Norman Bowles 

BOWLES, PANNIE NORMAN LAND August 27, 1917 - February 16, 2005 A native Texan, Pannie Norman Land Bowles was born in Miles, Texas in 1917; graduated from SMU, 1937, where she was a member of the Sigma Kappa Sorority. She worked for Mutual of Omahas South West division and retired as an executive after 42 years of service. 

After retiring in 1983, Mrs. Bowles first voluntary activity was service as an Advisory Board Member for the Foster Grandparents project, a part of the federal governments ACTION program. Pannie Bowles believed that citizen advocacy and community presence had an impact on the quality of nursing home life. Thus, for over a decade, she served as Ombudsman for the residents at the Traymore Nursing Home in Dallas. As an AARP Health Advocacy Services Coordinator, she received a national award in 1992 for her exemplary work in coordinating the AARP Nursing Home Advocate Training Program in the Dallas area. Her efforts to revise and develop new training methods for nursing home advocacy have been used for years as a model throughout the state of Texas.

Mrs. Bowles was a member of the Highland Park United Methodist Church, where she was a faithful member of the Mr. & Mrs. Class; member of local P.E.O. Chapter BM Philanthropic Educational Organization; member, local Michael Stoner Chapter of D.A.R. Daughters of the American Revolution; and member of the Society of the Mayflower Colony. 

Mrs. Bowles was predeceased in 1973 by her husband of 33 years Harry T. Land, and her husband of 20 years, E. James Bowles, who died in 2003. She is survived by Beverly Land Mueller, niece and Tomi Tucker, niece; Janie Means, stepdaughter; Brad Bowles, stepson; grand children, Melinda Means, Robin Skinner, Richard Means, Amy Bales, Catherine Campillo, and Michael Bowles; 9 great grandchildren; and Linda Brock Nelson, Arizona; Donna Harrison, Oklahoma; Helen Brown, Texas; Libby McCullogh, Texas; Dot Houston, cousin, Texas. Services will be held at 10:00 a. m. Saturady, February 19th, in the Sanctuary of Highland Park United Methodist Church. The Family expresses its thanks and appreciation to the staff of the Traymore Nursing home for its devoted care and attention to Mrs. Bowles during the past years of her illness. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the "We Care Ministry" of Highland Park United Methodist Church, 3300 Mockingbird, Dallas 75205; or Senior Citizens of Greater Dallas, 1215 Skiles, Dallas 75204.
