NOTE: Wife's name is unknown, some have suggested Sarah. The name Anne Marie Altman has been used, though that is not supported by any readily available evidence. Possible that he was born in England. Early family records show an English birth, no idea where the Virginia birth place comes from. Served under Captain Joseph Haynes in Dunsmore's War. Served in Revolution. From the "Historical Register of VA in the Revolution": -Brock, John, 8 CL (Continental Line) -Brock, John, 1st. Lieut. 10 CL Dec. 2, 1776; retired Sept. 30, 1778 -Brock, John, Capt. Reuben Harrison's Co;., Augusta 1777. From a Genealogy.com family tree: --- The Brock family, according to tradition, was of Holland Dutch descent, and sailed from Lincolnshire, England to America during early settlement of the colonies. The settled in Virginia and worked at their trades of wheelwrights and building looms and furniture. John was a Revolutionary War soldier and held the rank of Captain. ( LDS Archives File). It is recorded that John was born in England and cane to Virginia to live first in Halifax Co. and thu1 in Bedford Co. ("History of Jersey Co. IL"). The name of his wife is unknown. After He death of his son John in 1784 in Henry Co. where they lived, he moved lo Franklin Co. (It is possible that no moves were involved as Henry was formed from part of Bedford and Franklin from part of Henry.) Careful examination of the tax records enables one to conclude that both Captain John and Joshua (a son of John who died in 178431ived with John's elder son Joshua in Franklin Co. for a period of time. In 1786 Joshua had two tithes in his home. In 1787 Joshua had one lithe and a John had appeared. In 1793/94/95 Joshua has two tithes and then three Joshuas were listed in 18(30. These were called "Joshua, Sr.", "Joshua, Jr." and "Joshua, John son" ---
