NOTES: Born as "Joao Gomes dos Santos" Died in a car accident in San Diego Came to the US with his father-in-law's family John (or his father) worked as a bodygaurd for King Kamehameha. This was apparently verified in Hawaiian records by a family member, but there is no source information.
NOTES: Immigrated in 1886 (Per 1910 Census). Possibly born in Maui, Hawaii, according to ship passenger lists. May have been the daugther of Madeira immigrants, born in Hawaii. Earlier records show she was born in Madeira islands, but she had to have some proof of US birth to be declared a US citizen while her husband was not. Marriage record shows DIAS rather than DIAZ
