                   RESEARCH NOTE: Some researchers claim that the wife of William Cole is Elizabeth Simmons.  However, the following points were made by a Mr Cole:  1. Four of the couple's children used Hardesty as a middle name for their children, none were given the name Simmons.  2. Elizabeth Hardesty's mother's maiden name is Simmons, and it may have been her middle name.  3. The grandchildren names follow Hardesty family naming patterns.  HOWEVER: Additional children are listed that are attributed and sealed to Elizabeth Simmons, including Joshua Washington Cole, Alice Cole, and Joanna Cole.  Further research is necessary to determine if the family of William Cole and Elizabeth Hardesty is truly the same family as William Cole and Elizabeth Simmons.
