Robert McClure
Robert Milton McClure, 92, of Waterloo, formerly of Morning Sun, died Thursday, Aug. 16, 2001, from complications following a hip fracture.
Born July 30, 1909, in Yellow Springs Township, Des Moines County, he was the son of Samuel McLeod and Etta Jane Mahaffy McClure. He married Marjorie Ruth Bryant on Oct. 5, 1945. She died Sept. 12, 1998.
At the age of six, Mr. McClure's family moved to the farm, where he lived until 1993, when he and his wife moved to Waterloo. He was a 1927 graduate of Morning Sun High School, where he played on the football team and ran track. The Great Depression cut short his college career, and he returned home to run the family farm.
He was very involved in his children's activities, his duties at Sharon Reformed Presbyterian Church and his community. He enjoyed gardening, writing poetry, telling stories, having debates and singing with his family and friends.
Survivors include two daughters, Margaret Jean Mills and Patricia Diane Porter; one son, Robert Bruce McClure; 11 grandchildren; one nephew; and seven great-nieces and great-nephews.
Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by five sisters and two brothers.
Visitation will begin at noon Monday at Hagele and Honts Funeral Home in Morning Sun, where the family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m.
The funeral for Mr. McClure will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Sharon Reformed Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Ronald Good officiating. Burial will be in Sharon Church Cemetery.
A memorial has been established.

Laurie Jensen,
I am a descendent of Robert Porter through George Porter and Robert McClure, who was my father. I saw your file in Ancestry.com and am wondering if we are cousins. I can give you more information if you wish on my line. Thanks for your posting and I will look forward to hearing from you.
Bruce McClure

Laurie,
Thanks for the information. It is interesting that you descend from Robert Bruce Porter as my full name is Robert Bruce McClure. I have a photograph that I am attaching to this note of who I think is Robert Bruce Porter and Jane Bruce Porter. It was probably taken when Jane went out to Kansas to live after George Porter died. I have other photographs including the gravestone of George and Jane Porter if you are interested. Do you have any photographs of George Porter or family?
Your information fit nicely with what I had with quite a bit more from your lines. I have a hand written genealogy which is probably from the same work that Maggie Boyd had done. I would be happy to send more information if you could tell me what format works best for you. I use Familytreemaker and can send a ged, ftw, or txt file.
Thanks again,
Bruce
