Information from Family sheet of Helen Crandall Baird, Box 334, Ehrenberg, AZ her sources are: Etha Baird Baumeister's DAR Research; Ainsworth Cemetery Record (known as Uncle Billy to community) resided in Mercer County, Pennsylvania, 1851 to Illinois, 1855 to Ainsworth, Washington, Iowa family notes: Came to U.S. in 1830, then returned to Ireland and married Jane Alexander. They came to U.S. and settled in Mercer County, Pennsylvania, where they resided about 17 years. They removed to Rock Island, Illinois in 1850 and about three years later to Washington County Iowa where the remainder of their life was spent. Six children. All three boys were in the war. Obituary Washington Evening Journal, 17 February 1916 Ainsworth--Mrs. John Walker Crawford died at her home about noon February 16th after an illness of some weeks. Mary Porter, daughter of William and Jane Alexander Porter was born in Mercer Co., PA and later they moved to this township where they located permanently. Mary Porter was one of Washington County's earliest teachers. She was united in marriage to Walker Crawford on December 4, 1856 and moved at once to the farm, continuously from that time until death called them. Mr. Crawford died July 16, 1914. Of three children born, two remain to mourn their loss: Mrs. D.L. Baird, and W.R. Crawford, both of this place. Also four grandchildren and three great grandchildren. She was a member of the U.P. Church of Ainsworth. She is the last of her father's family and her death leaves only three relatives near her own age: Marion Crawford of Washington, IA., a brother in law; Sarah Crawford of Crawsfordsville, IA, a cousin; James Porter, a cousin who lives on a farm adjoining the Crawford home. Funeral will be held from the U.P. Church at Ainsworth, interment will be in the Ainsworth cemetery. 50th Wedding Anniversary article (Dec. 1906), Ainsworth Newspaper. She lived in Mercer Co.
