Hoyt St.Jory was born June 12, 1873 in Salem, and lived here all his life except for four years spent in Alaska prospecting for gold. His profession was that of a farmer and for many years he raised prunes in the Red Hills about seven miles south of Salem. His son, a successful actor, was in Salem last May when the elder Jory became seriously ill.Jory was married June 29, 1907 in Salem and he and his wife celebrated their golden wedding anniversary this year.Jory was a member of the Elks.Surviving in addition to his son are the widow, Mrs. Grace E. OBITUARY:  PARK DONOR DIES at AGE 81 Mrs. Grace Jory, 81 member of a pioneer Salem Area family who provided Joryville park and helped restore two early Oregon museum homes, died Wednesday at a Salem nursing home. Mrs. Jory and her late husband, Edwin Jory, donated 26 acres of the William Jory land claim near Rosedale District for use as a county park. Plans for development of the park site expected to be drawn up shortly by Marion County, Her step-son, Victor Jory of Los Angeles, is the well-known movie and television star. Oregon Statesman 17 August 1961 1:2  MRS. JORY'S FUNERAL to be SATURDAY Funeral services for Mrs. Grace Emma Jory, 81, of Salem, who died Wednesday, will be Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at W. T. Rigdon's Funeral Home, Rev. Boone White officiating. Burial will be in Salem Pioneer Cemetery. Mrs. Jory, of 425 E St. NE, was born Oct 23, 1879, in Phillips County, Kansas. She came to Salem in 1893 with her parents and was married in 1907 in Salem to Edwin A. Jory, who died in 1957. She was a member of the Morningside Methodist Church, a 40 year member of the Chemeketa Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and a member of the Daughters of Union Veterans of the Civil War. Interested in Oregon history, she furnished one room of the Newell home at Champoeg which the DAR is restoring, and also provided a parlor set for Bush House Museum. In 1952 Edwin and Grace Jory donated 26 acres of the William Jory land claim in the Rosedale district south of Salem to the South Salem Area Chamber of Commerce for development as a park. The Chamber deeded the land over to the Marion County Park and Recreation Commission in March, and the site is scheduled to be developed shortly. Survivors include two brothers, J. F. Goode and W. M. Goode, Salem; a sister, Mrs. Stella Moore, Vancouver; and a step-son, Victor Jory, Los Angeles. Oregon Statesman 17 Aug 1961 5:1
