Raised by aunt and uncle, Alonzo and Keziah (Small) Hoard.

1869, Harvey took advantage of land bounties granted to veterans and began to homestead in Sioux County, Iowa new Hawarden. In 1876, they moved to Alcester to be nearer the rest of the family. "Before his death he became a highly respected citizen and an extensive landholder for that time. He died Jan 7, 1904. Martha Ann (Woodcock) Hoard died Oct 8, 1925."
