Note from Judi Witmann Evenson:
Silas is buried in the first Martinsburg Cemetery (called the Hogsback Cemetery ) on a hogsback or
ridge visible from route 12D, some 3/4 mile south of the Village of Martinsburg. Some 25 graves are there of the early settlers of Martinsburg. The cemetery is "abandoned" and is the oldest of all the 12 cemeteries there. Col. Adam Martin was first buried there, but his body was removed to a plot in the "New" Martinsburg Cemetery.
"Silas, a brother of the pioneer Joshua Conkey, came from Pelham near the close of the Revolutionary War and settled at Fitch's Point, erecting clothing-works; after about twenty years he moved to Martinsburg. Of his children only one settled in Salem, Mrs. William Fitch."
