Monday afternoon about two o'clock the city was startled by the report that D.E. Bailey had been struck by lightning. A visit to his furniture store and shop soon confirmed the sad news.  He had been instantly killed by the fatal fluid.  He had been getting out some lumber for the manufacture of tables and had been waiting several days for ... so that he could plane them and during the storm seemed his chance so he kept busy at his work... When the storm had nearly passed over a bolt struck following down the... into the shop...
D. E. Bailey was born in Newbury,  New Hampshire, August 20, 1858.  in 1864 he moved with his parents to Kansas where they remained until the year 1865,  when they removed to Balck River Falls,  in Jackson County this  state, and in 1873 came to Greenwood, where they have lived ever since.  On June 1st, 1885, Miss Ella Bacon of Neilsville became his bride and now mourns his loss, together with a daughter five years of age and a son two years.  The loss is an immesurable one not only to his wife and children,  but also to his aged parents, while two sisters and a brother will miss his cheering ... and helping hand.
