NOTES: 1. Jesse died on the plains, near the North Platt River, buried at foot of Ozark Mountains. 2. Surname "Impey" in England, and "Empey" in America. 3. Traveled from Liverpool, England with his wife and children on the ship "Thornton", arriving in New York 16 Jun 1856. 4. Crossed the plains with the Willey Handcart Company.
DEATH: Mary often went without food as they were crossing the plains, to enable her children to have necessary nourishment. Due to her frequent fasting and constant exposure to the cold, she died the day after her family reached their destination at Plain City, Utah.
DEATH: William died on the trail, crossing the plains.
NOTES: 1. After James' parents died, he and his sister, Sarah Jane, were raised by their Uncle Shadrack. One day James argued with his uncle and left. Sarah Jane was following him when she saw him taken by Indians. When she returned with help, he was nowhere to be found, presumed killed.
He married Mary Foulks 29 Jan 1846 at Totternhoe, Bedford, England . Mary Foulks was born at Totternhoe, Bedford, England 9 Jul 1826 daughter of William Foulks and Elizabeth Turner .
