                   NOTES:
    1. John Howland was a passenger on the Mayflower. He was an indentured servant and the executive assistant and personal secretary to Governor John Carver. He signed the Mayflower Compact and helped found Plymouth Colony.
    2. John became a representative and in 1634 assistant governor of the colony.

                   NOTES:
    Elizabeth and her parents were passengers on the Mayflower. Her parents both died the first winter, leaving Elizabeth an orphan. She was taken in by the Carver family. The Carvers died about a year later, and part of their estate was inherited by their servant, John Howland, and Elizabeth became his ward. In 1623/4, she married John Howland. At that time she was about 16 years of age while he was about 30.
