NOTES: 1. In 1738 Johann received permission to emigrate and he and his wife and several unnamed children sailed on the "Elizabeth" which landed in Philadelphia on October 30 of that year. They eventually settled in Maryland, but it is possible that they stopped first in Amwell, New Jersey, where a community of Brethren had been organized by Jacob Naas in about 1735. 2.
