                   NAME:
    1. John Griffith (or John Gruff) appears very frequently in the Cilcain Register from its beginning in 1577 to 1643. Usually in Wales in that period a double name signifies two generations, that is, the name John Griffith says that John is the son of Griffith. In this Cilcain record of that period, I (Howard Sharp Bennion) am convinced that the name John Griffith signifies only one generation. Thus the name Thomas ap John Griffith ap Rees tells that Thomas is the grandson of Rees, not the great- grandson. The dates do not fit otherwise.
    2. Since Howard S. Bennion did his research and wrote this note computerized, alphabetized and cross-indexed parish records have been prepared and several more children have been located. The   name, John Griffith, has been treated both as one and two generations.
