BIRTH:
    May have been 1837, either in New York City or in Edinborough, Scotland.

MARRIAGE:
    Performed by Rev. John D. McCloud to Elizabeth Clinton Stone in 1874.

NOTES:
    1.Enlisted on 23 April 1861 in New York (25 years old)in Company A of the 5th Regt. of the New York Volunteer Infantry (known as Duryes Zouaves). Mustered out on 14 May 1863.
    2. On 31 Aug 1862 was left sick in camp near Harrison's Landing in Virginia.
From 7 Aug 1862 to 31 Oct 1862 was in Stewarts Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. The discrepancy in the note on 31 Aug is not explained, but is noted on the copy of his military record.
    3. Re-enlisted on 3 July 1863 in Company F of the 84th Regiment of the New York State Militia.   Discharged on 4 August 1863 as a Sergeant apparently for health reasons.
    4.  On 13 March 1880 a Certification of Incorporation was filed for the Fifth New York Volunteer Veterans Association, a mutual relief association, to continue for the term of 25 years.   Veterans who formed the Association and served as directors for the first year included James Robert Murray and eight other veterans.
    5.  May have actually born in Edinborough, Scotland, and not in New York City.  (Will research this further.)

Applied for a pension on 4 Oct 1897.
On his application for a pension his physical condition was noted as "asthma, heart, liver, stomach and kidney disease, disease of bowels and urinary organs, weakness and cramps of both legs, and general disability and nervous debility"

Death ceretificate number  #1444.
He was a day laborer, had gray eyes, dark hair with a dark complexion.   He was approximately 5 ft. 10 inches tall.

    2. Had a good friend Thomas Wallace Keen, an Actor (who may have been a distant relative), and used to stay or visit them at a boarding house.   This is probably where Dad and my brother Keen got their names from.
    3. Ran away from home when about 9 years old and went to Maryland, where he eventually met Nannie, (Floya)  his wife.
    4. Worked in grocery store, where he was very strict to his sons that worked with him.   Left there abour 1936 to work for Scott Florists.   I worked for him delivering flowere during big holidays.   Scotts Florist didn't want to put employees on Social Security, so Uncle John Phillips persuaded them to.
    5. A cousin, Katherine Murray, was a movie actress.
