Lionell was listed as the 4th child of his mother, Eleanor. MARRIED: By Rev. Joseph L. Kenney, at about 1:00 AM NOTES: 1. Was the only child of his mother's first marriage. 2. Had a good friend Thomas Wallace Keen, an Actor (who may have been a distant relative), and used to stay or visit them at a boarding house. This is probably where Dad and my brother Keen got their names from. 3. Ran away from home when about 9 years old and went to Maryland, where he eventually met Nannie, (Floya) his wife. 4. Worked in grocery store, where he was very strict to his sons that worked with him. Left there abour 1936 to work for Scott Florists. I worked for him delivering flowere during big holidays. Scotts Florist didn't want to put employees on Social Security, so Uncle John Phillips persuaded them to. 5. A cousin, Katherine Murray, was a movie actress.

At one time worked on boats at St. George Lighthouse on Staten Island with Uncle Jake (Jacob Swaim). Tried to enlist in the Army during World War I, but was rejected because he was too small. Worked as a riveter at Bethlehem Steel Shipyard at Port Richmond, NY. Learned to cook at the Leah Cafe near the Bayonne Ferry, also met several boxers there and did sparring with them. I learned about his boxing skills when I was in the Boy Scouts and dared him to put boxing gloves on with me, I finally had to hide under the dining room table to get away from him. He used to run around Clove Lake Park with his brothers and friends on Sunday's. Worked for Uncle Linus Sutton (my namesake) repairing trucks during building a road in the Dismal Swamp in North Carolina. Mildred died at approx. 2:30 AM while living in the Town and Country Manor Retirement and Healthcare Center in Santa Ana, CA. She was cremated and a memorial service was held on 25 July 2004. Arrangements were handled by the Fairhaven Memorial Park and Mortuary, in Santa Ana. Mildred was born in West Brighton (Staten Island) and moved to Westerleigh (Staten Island) in 1929. She moved to St. Petersburg, FL in 1963, then moved to Santa Ana, CA in 1986. During the 1950's Mildred worked as a circulation manager for the former Boats Magazine in Manhattan. Attended Immanuel Union Church in Westerleigh (same church I attended when I lived in Westerleigh), where she taught Sunday School and participated in a basketball league. Mildred and her husband John were members of the Westerleigh Players, a group that performed musicals and operettas, held at Public School 30 (same school I attended). This information was provided by her daughter, Jean Montroy.
Leonard (Uncle Bub) died on Saturday 14 July 2001at 1:45 AM. He had been operated on on 10 July 2001 to remove a tumor in his colon, and died of complications from the surgery. He was drafted in 1942 into the Army Air Corps, and sent to England in 1943. He worked on battle-damaged B-17's, doing mostly sheet metal work. When he died he had been working part-time at Castleton Hill Moravian Church as a sexton. He had worked full time there until he retired in 1985. Prior to this he owned and operated the Edward Schaefer Co, an upholstery business in West Brighton. He lived in Westerleigh all his life, either with his parents, or in the same home when his parents died. His Social Security number was 097-09-7161. I completed his Temple work on a very windy day, 15 Nov. 2006. It felt good, I can only pray that he accepts it, maybe Alice will teach him.
He married Floya Washington Johnson 3 Jul 1895 at Hinson, Maryland, Usa . Floya Washington Johnson was born at Bishops Head, Dorchester, Maryland, Usa 24 Mar 1875 daughter of John Washington Johnson and Lavinia (Louvennie) Jones .
