Endre or Andrew was a cook on the ship "Sloop".  He should really have kept the name of Lindland, the farm on which he was born, which is well to the south of Stavanger.  Lindland was in the sogn or county of Sogndal.  For some reason Endre chose to call himself "Dal", which in America was spelled "Dahl".  His name became Andrew Dahl, but since his children, were Endre's sons (and datters), their last name became Anderson, and Endre himslef was called Andrew (S.) Salvesen Anderson.
