BIOGRAPHY:
    George Wilding was baptized in the fall of 1839 in Engla nd by his father, Dr. David Wilding, in the Ribble River near Preston.  He wa s confirmed by his father and Thomas Richardson.  He and his family sailed for Am erica on Feb. 16, 1841, on the Echo.  They arrived in Nauvoo, Ill., on May 1 , 1841. George was ordained an elder in Nauvoo in 1845; a seventy on April 10 , 1853 by L. W. Hancock; and a high priest on Aug. 28, 1897, by G. B. Wallace . His family crossed the plains with the Benjamin E. Gardiner Company, leav ing Kanesville, Iowa, on May 15, 1852.  The company consisted of 241 peop le with 45 wagons.  Fourteen members of the company died of cholera along the wa y.  George had cholera and lived.  His wagon was drawn by one horse and a cow . They arrived in the Salt Lake Valley on Sept. 24, 1852.  George and his brother-in-law, Horace Owens, were hunters for the company.  Buffal o and wild game were plentiful and they had no trouble keeping the company suppl ied with meat.
