                   Harriet's father was born in Missouri and her mother was born in Ohio or Missouri.  I have no other information about them at this time.  Harriet married Jasper Newton when he was about 26 and she was less than 15.  She had her first child when she was 15.  She had a total of 9 children all surviving to adulthood. MRD

November 7, 2005 - I was going through some old papers in my genealogy file and I found a paper that someone gave me with information on Harriet Elizabeth Gilbert and her family.  It listed her mother's name as Armel Miller and her father as John Gilbert.  Since she named one of her daughters Daisy ARNEL I have wondered if her mothers name was really ARNEL and not ARMEL.  I haven't found any documentation on her parents so I am only speculating at this point.
The paper I found said she had a brother named Zack.  I found a Zachariah Gilbert on the  1870 census in California, he was twelve years old so would have been born in 1858 in California.  He was listed with Zachariah and Harriet Miller and they were in their mid to late sixties.  On the 1860 census in California,I found Zachariah and Harriet Miller, they were in their mid to late fifties and they had Harriet and Zachariah Miller listed as adopted children who were 7 and 2 years old.  Which would be the correct age for Harriet Elizabeth and possibly her brother Zack. I can only speculate that her parents died and her grandparents adopted or at least raised them.  She married before she was 15 so her grandparents may have been gone by then also.  I have found her on later census records but cannot find any reference to her brother.  I have not found any further reference to her parents or grandparents or brother in any census search or birth or death records.  I don't know what happened to them but I feel confident that these people are her family. MRD
*My records indicate that Armel Miller died about 1879, why wasn't she listed on the census records with her children and parents?  Where did I get that death date?mrd

Notes:
                   Nancy Ellen was married three times.  She married her first husband Mr. Rippey 9 Sep 1891.  It is unknown what became of him but she then married Judson Douglas Jacobie and had four children according to the 1900 census, with three surviving.  Some family records indicate that she also married a Mr. Farlow, there is no further information on him.
