Hulbert (Wesley), Cicero, Defiance Co., Ohio from Grand Rapids, Michigan 24 Sept 1894...from Rillia (Florilla Hulbert Jennings). Letter head...Jennings & Smith, Grand Rapids...Sept. 24, 1894...Grand Rapids, Michigan. My dear Brother, Your welcome letter was received. But, I thought you were coming back when you went away. I feel real disappointed. Will says you were gaining ground all the time and he says your customers are inquiring after you for goods. He said he offered you rent this winter if you would come. Well I tell you, do as you like and then you will be satisfied but I don't think you want to farm. Will says he wasn't tired of you, said he made better time when you were with him than now. Frank has had typhoid fever and is just getting up around the house. Charley Taylor and wife were here all day Saturday. He goes back to Kankakee this morning. Aunt Lucy and Jackson were here last Monday and Tuesday. Hattie and Rittie had a very pleasant time staying with Grandma. I haven't seen her yet. Aunt Lucy says she will keep her just as long as she can. Well, the summer resorts are closed up but the theaters are running full blast at all three houses. Will says Jason may have to move that barn back if he moves it off. He says he has no business to move off that barn. Of course, the house don't stand on Ma's place but as long as will has a mortgage on the place he has no right to remove anything. What makes you try to farm if you can't have what is right. It is now half past seven and Hattie and I are going down town. She has to have a pair of shoes before she goes to school. I hope to hear from you soon. We all join in sending love to you all. Rillia"
