            Invt. 758-19-10. Taken 27 July, 1713, by John Sage, Samuel Frary and John Warner. Will dated 6 March,
            1711.
            I, Thomas Ranney of Middletown, do make this my last will and testament: I give to my wife Mary, during
            her natural life, the use of half of my dwelling house wherein she now lives, half of my homelot, half of my
            old barn, with the whole of my upper lot in Long Meadow, also that land that her Father Hubbard gave her.
            And I appoint my son Thomas to take care of his mother. I give to my son Thomas the lot on which his
            house stands, and 1 1-2 acres of my land in Wongonk Meadow, and the whole of the upper Long Meadow
            lot, after his mother's decease. That lot near Wongunk or Indian Hill, the east part, I reserve for myself; the
            west part thereof I will that it be divided unto my four sons equally betwixt them, viz., Thomas, John,
            Joseph and Ebenezer. I give to my son John that lot whereon his house stands, with one acre of land. I give
            to my son Joseph the lot whereon his house stands, with one acre of land. I give unto my son Ebenezer half
            of my dwelling house, homested and old barn, and the other half after his mother's decease, provided he do
            pay to Mary Savage, Elizabeth Warner and Easter Savage 5 apiece; also that he should give to his sisters,
            vizt., to Hannah, Margaret and Abigail, so much of his part of Cold Spring lot as shall amount to 15 in pay.
            I give to my son and daughter John and Mary Savage land in the lower meadow. I give unto my son and
            daughter Jonathan and Elizabeth Warner, in addition to what they have already had, 5. I give to my son and
            daughter Nathaniel and Easter Savage 5 in addition to what they have already had. I give unto my grandson
            Willett Ranney about 8 acres of a Timber Hill lot. I give unto my grandson Thomas Savage my lott in the
            Dead Swamp. Lastly, I now appoint my sons Thomas, John and Joseph to be executors, and desire Mr.
            David Deming and my son John Savage overseers.

Ransdell, Joseph Eugene

RANNEY, Ambrose Arnold, representative, was born in Townshend, Vt., April 17, 1821; son of Dr. Waitstill R. and Phoebe (Atwood) Ranney; grandson of Waitstill and Abigail (Harlow) Ranney and a descendant of Thomas Ranney (born in Scotland, 1616, and one of the first settlers of Middletown, Conn.), and Mary (Hubbard) Ranney. His father was a leading farmer and physician of Windham county, and lieutenant governor of Vermont for two terms. Ambrose attended Townshend academy and was graduated from Dartmouth college, N.H., in 1844. He was principal of Chester academy, 184446; studied law with Andrew Tracy at Woodstock, Vt.; was admitted to the bar in 1848, and after teaching in the Brimmer Street school for some months, began practice in Boston. He was city solicitor, 185557; a representative in the state legislature in 1857, 1863 and 1864, and was a Republican representative from the third district in the 47th, 48th and 49th congresses, 188187, serving as chairman of special committees on the pan-electric schemes. He was married, Dec. 4, 1850 to Maria D., daughter of Addison and Maria (Ingals) Fletcher, and his only son, Fletcher, became his law partner. He died in Boston, Mass., March 5, 1899.

Invt. 1284-00-00. Taken 1st March, 1727, by Joseph Ranney and Samuel Gipson. Will dated 31 January, 1726-7.
I, Thomas Ranney of Middletown, in the County of Hartford, husbandman, doe make this my last will and testament: Imprimis: I give to Rebeckah, my wife, 1-2 of my now dwelling house, 1-2 of my land at home, 1-2 of my orchard and 1-2 of my land in the long meadow. This I give her during her natural life, excepting only my wearing apparell, which I give to my three sons, Thomas, Willet and Nathaniel. And what money that is lent out I give to my wife to be at her own disposal. I give to my son Thomas yt lottment of land whereon his house stands; also I give him my land lying on the Plain, north of lands belonging to my brother Joseph Ranney and south of land belonging to Lt. Frary, and butts on ye road from Middletown to Wethersfield west; also I give him 1-3 of my other land lying on the Plain easterly of land that belongeth to my brother Joseph Ranney and westerly on land belonging to my brother Ebenezer Ranney; also I give him half of my long meadow land after my wife's decease; also I give him the 1-2 of my land in Wangunk meadow; also I give him the 1-2 of my Burch Swamp Pasture; also I give him my meadow at Goose Delight, and all my Neck land that lyeth near sd. Goose Delight Meadow. I give to my son Willet all my land at Timber Hill; also my lower lott in Boggy Meadow; also I give him the remainder of my land at Passonchoague after my grandson George hath had 2 acres more than what I have given him and his sister by deed of gift, and 2 acres to lye next to that which I have given him and his sister as above, and then all the remainder of my land there or thereabout to be to my son Willet; also I give him 1-3 part of my lottment of land on the Plain that lyeth easterly of land that belongeth to my brother Joseph Ranney and westerly of land belonging to my brother Ebenezer Ranney. I give to the heirs of my son George in this my will what I have given them by deed of gift. Also I give to my grandson George Ranney, the son of my son George Ranney decd., two acres of land adjoining to that which I have given to him and his sister by deed of gift, which is the two acres above specified. I give to my son Nathaniel the 1-2 of my now dwelling house and half of my barn, 1-2 of my land at home, 1-2 of my orchard at my decease and the other half at my wife's decease. I give to my three daughters, Rebeca, Margaret and Anne, 2-3 of my moveable estate at my decease. Also, I give to my three daughters all my lands that are already laid out in the last division on the east side of the Great River. Also, I give them all my land in the Round Meadow. Also, I give them all my land lyeing on the Heither Neck, so called. Also, I give to my three sons all my propriety right in lands that are yet to be divided in Middletown. And whereas it is sayed in that part of my will that my son Willet shall have all my land at Timber Hill, it is thus to be understood that Willet is to accomodate his mother with pasturing for a cow or two if she needs it. I appoint my three sons, Thomas, Willet and Nathaniel, executors.

Be it known to all men by these presents: That whereas I, Thomas Ranney of the Town of Middletown, have made my last will and testament in writeing bearing date 31st January, 1726-7, I, the sd. Thomas Ranney, by this present codicil, do ratify and confirm my sd. last will and testament, and do will and bequeath to my three daughters, Rebeckah, Anne and Margaret, the sum of 20 in money or bills of credit of this Colony or the neighboring provinces, to be paid unto them by my son Willet on consideration of his having all my land at Timber Hill, the sd. 20 to be paid after my wife's decease.
