Dear Eleanor,

Thank you for your inquiry. According to our Cemetery Inscription books, there are seven Farnsworths listed in Defiance County, all at the Old Forest Home Cemetery in Hicksville, Ohio (Defiance County), located off of State Route 18.

Edna D. Aug. 14, 1888: aged 78 yr. 4 mo., 3 da.
Oliver D. Dec. 24, 1882: aged 86 yr. 6 mos. 6 da.

Additionally, we have listed:
Francis O. 1832-1920 - Came to Defiance 1840.
Margaret M. 1840-1912

All of the above are in Row 6: section 3.

Also, we have
Albert 1830-1918
Eliza A. 1834-1894 - Wife
Newell A. 1855-1933

All of the above are in Row 1: section 5.

I checked for obituaries in the County Express, the Democrat and the Crescent (where available) and found nothing for either Edna or Oliver.
I also checked the Catholic Diocese records for the Catholic church in Hicksville - no Farnsworths listed.
For a list of the churches in Defiance County, the Defiance County Chapter of the Ohio Genealogical Society has a list at their website:
http://www.rootsweb.com/~ohdcgs/churchesdefco.html
We can only provide 20 minutes of research time, and we do not research for a fee. We can put you in touch with a paid researcher if you would like. I would recommend checking out the Defiance County Chapter's website for any help, too - they keep a list of queries and can put you in touch with others researching your surname.
Please let us know is we can assist you further.

p382 Farnsworth Family
"Oliver and Edna (King) Farnsworth, natives of Vermont, moved to New York City about 1833. They lived there for three years. Then they moved to Stark County, Ohio. Here he worked at his trade of carpenter and joiner for four years. In the fall of 1840, he brought the family to Definace County, Ohio, and located in Milford Township. He lived on what is not known as the Adam Rhiele farm, where he started to clear land and make a home for his family. He continued to live here until he was called to his final rest on December 24, 1882, at the age of eight-six years and six months. His wife survived him about six years. She died August 14, 1888, at the age of seventy-eight years. Thus passed away two of Defiance County's honored pioneers and highly respected citizens. They are buried in Forest Home Cemetery at Hicksville, Ohio. They were the parents of eleven children, two of whom died in infancy. Nine children reached adulthood: Jane A., wife of Royal L. Taylor; Albert; Frank; Ellen, wife of Clement Hulbert; Eliza, wife of Jason B. Martin; Mary, wife of Sumner Johnson; Nathan E.; Lucy, wife of William Jackson; and Edna, wife of Sam Myheoffer." Hi Pam,
Are you related to Oliver Farnsworth bn 28 June 1796 in Woodstock,Vt.d.24 Dec 1882 Milford Twp.,Defiance County,Ohio? He is my 2nd great, grandfather. He married twice that I know of 1)believed to be Nancy Rice...they have one son, Milo Farnsworth b. Jan 1822 in Homer,Cortland,New York 2)Edna King b.1810 Boston,Mass ...They have 12 children and one adopted child.

I've done much research on the Farnsworth line for years. I was puzzled too by the Oliver Farnsworth that marries Miss. Mary Jackson on

He participated in the Battle of Murfreesboro in the seige of Knoxville. as well as several other skirmishes. His experience was remarkable. INVENTOR OF TELEVISION CREDITED GOD FOR CREATIONS

On 7 September 1927, Philo Farnsworth, made history when he transmitted
a
single line of light in a makeshift lab in San Francisco, California.
"There you have it," said the 21-year-old Farnsworth, "electronic television." Years later in a television interview conducted one year before his death, Farnsworth said: "I am a deeply religious man; I know that God exists. I know that I have never invented anything. I have been a medium by which these things were given to the culture as fast as culture could earn them. I give the credit to God."

Hi Ellie, Yes I am in Portland..Have lived here since John and I married in 1960. John was the son of Edythe Wadley and Harold Ticknor. I have lots of dates and information from Oliver and Edna on down. Nathan died March 21, 1946 in Portland, Multnomah county, Oregon and is buried here. His wife was Martha Amanda Newman. she was born Jan. 15, 1853 one mile north of Bloomville, Seneca County, Ohio and died May 1936 in Portland. You have all their children listed. Paul died close to two years ago with Cancer. His wife, Mabel is now in a nursing home after falling and breaking her hip. Her memory is getting very bad so will probably stay there. I live just blocks from their house and about a mile from the nsg home so am sort of the one who looks in on her and keep track of her nsg problems since I am a retired RN. She has grand nieces on her side of the family, who also
see her often. John's cousin, Dick Wadley, (William's son) takes care of her affairs. John's mother, Edythe is the only one of the kids left. She is 91, living in her own home on the golf course of Woodburn's retirement community
and plays golf whenever the weather allows. My daughter and I just got her a computer and she is dying to learn how to do emails She is supposed to be doing some memoirs for my daughter. It is really getting late so will look forward to hearing from you soon. Where does your family branch off from ours.....Will love to exchange
information with you.....Belva

Hi Ellie.
My name is Judy Brugger I understand we are distant cousins. I have rec'd your name from 2 different family members Belva Ticknor and Tommi Sue Kadotoni, and thought I would give you a quick note. My great
grandmother was the baby of the Farnsworth family, Edna Farnsworth, she and her second husband move to Portland in about 1903. She and Uncle Nathan were the 2 babies and he spent a lot of time in Calif and Oregon.
On Sept 16 my husband and I are going to Hudson Ohio to visit my youngest daughter who has moved there with her family. I understand it is about 4 hours from Hicksville.....Defiance Cty and we want to drive over to the
area to investigate our roots. I don't know if you have any connections with family who might still be living in the area but I would so like to know and contact them if possible. We also have a cousin living in Las Vegas and we are planning a trip that way possibly next month and if we make it I would love to chat with you. Tommi Sue and Kenneth were here for a wedding recently and we had them over for dinner and had a wonderful visit . The next day she and I went through all the things I have left from my family.
Just brief note about me; I was born in Portland in 1940 have been married 2 times. I have 2 daughters ages 40 and 42 they each have 4 children. I have 3 step children with 3 other grandchildren plus one great granddaughter. We are lucky enough to both be retired, I worked 31 years at the OR State Mental Hospital in several different capacities and my husband was a brewer. We live a pretty modest life and enjoy our family and friends. Have done a bit of traveling, but mostly stick around home. We built a house on the Oregon Coast where we spend much
of idol time enjoying the sea. My mom is still living, dad passed away in 1981. Since retirement I have taken up both bridge and golf and do quite poorly at each but they say it takes time to learn and improve as in anything. I love to knit and sew, which of late I do very little, have done quilting but am tired of that. Enough of that stuff, I hope you will write me a note about you and will look forward to your reply.
Fondly, Judy

I have almost no info on the Crary's, in fact the info you sent the other day gave me a place of death for Orley Crary. I find it interesting that my great grandfather and grandfather both died on Dec 8, my father died
Dec 7 and 2 years ago on Dec 7 I had a heart attack. "Spookie" to say the least. Can you tell me how you do all this research? Are you on the internet doing it or some other source. Hope I got these dates right for you,
the paper I took them from is such a mess I need a better way of keeping this info, any suggestions? I will do my family later am tired of typing and trying to decipher my notes.

I will close for now as it is almost 11 pm and I have been up since 5 am. Do you have Tommi Sue's e-mail address?
Looking forward to sharing more info. Judy

Cousin Tommie Brett cousin in Denver, has more information on Ella. A picture of her when she was old and data about who she married and her family as follows from newpaper clipping.(I have a copy):
Falls Woman Will Observe 90th Birthday on Thursday...by Staff Correspondent
NEWTON FALLS....Mrs. Ella Opper will be 90 years old Thursday, making her one of the oldest residents of this community.
Open house will be held in her honor Thursday at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. & Mrs. Fred Schmidt, 329 Arlington Rd. Mr. & Mrs. Schmidt are inviting all of Mrs. Opper's friends to call Thursday from 2 to 4 P.M. and 7 to 9 P.M to help her celebrate her natal day.
Mrs. Opper, the former Eliza Ellen Burton, was born Nov. 18, 1858 in Henry County, Ohio. Her mother died at the time of her birth and she was taken into the home of Mr. & Mrs. Oliver Farnsworth.
Mr. & Mrs. Farnsworth had 12 children of their own and two of the girls were named Eliza and Ellen so it was neccessary to change the name of the newcomer to the family name of Ella, in order to avoid confusion, and Mrs. Opper has always used this name.
In her youth Mrs. Opper was a dressmaker and later became a school teacher. She married Michael Opper at Gypsum, Ohio on Oct. 19, 1882. Four children were born to them at Lakeside. One son, Burton Raymond, is a missionary at Hyderabad, India, the other, Marion Russell is in government service and lives in Baltimore, Md. Her two daughters are Mrs. Gladys Vera Schmidt, at whose home she resides, and Mrs. Freeman (Daisy Clare) Meacham who lives at Lakeside. There are 12 grandchildren and four great grandchildren. The Opper family moved to Pricetown in 1910 where Mr. Opper died on March 26, 1918. In 1921 they came to Newton Falls where Mrs. Opper has been an active member of the Methodist Church ever since. She is now the oldest member on the church membership roll. She enjoys good health and every sunday can be seen at her place in the congregation for church services.
Mrs. Opper has earned an enviable reputation for her skill at quilting and still works at it. She does qilting and reading without the aid of glasses.
Mrs. Opper has already had one birthday celebration this year, which was held this summer before her son left for his missionary post in India. All of her four.....

This is all the information that Tommie Geer Kadotani, ...303-837-8428 had sent ...the news article wasn't complete.
