Divorce Records in my files...Divorce papers....William County: Appears that she got custody, at least for a period of time. He refutes her allegations. I'd always been told that she had a mental problem, drew a knife on him, that resulted in their divorce and that the children were awarded to the grandparents, Richard and Sarah Jane Law. In the divorce records I find that she is awarded the children and that Jason can see them only once each month. So that is an intirely different view point....Don't know really what all the details of that situation were.
INTERVIEW WITH RICHARD C. LAW 1983
Richard C. Law (my uncle) interview 12-26-83 "Mary Back Law and Jason Andrew Law were divorced about 1889. Story I heard was they divorced when William J. Law was 2 yrs. old. Jason A. Law was in Hicksville area about that time. He was boarding at the Ellen Hulbert home. That is how he met my mother, Edna Celestia Hulbert. I think Mary (his first wife) was a school teacher. I know she was...in a country school. She remarried an old soldier (note: Sipples). No more children to my knowledge. The courts awarded the children to Grandma and Grandpa Law, Richard A. Law and Sarah J. Holden, in Williams County, Ohio. But, Mary kept coming and taking the children. Finally, she kept them. There are still Backs in and around Bryan,Ohio." Interviewed by Eleanor Law Johnson, c/o 530 S. 4th St., Las Vegas, Nv 89101. Uncle Richard and my father, Theodore T. Law , were half brothers of Jason's children by his first marriage to Mary Back.
