The Eib Families of America by Gerald S. Birum, FHL Film 2055151 Item 12 P.70.
Listed: JACOB EIB'S birth as 17 July 1758 Lancaster County, Penn. and married MARIA CATHARINE CARPENTER, in York Co.,Pa.
"Jacob Eib's father, I believe, is the JOHN PETER EIB, that, with his brother, MATTIAS EIB, and mother, ANNA MARIA (GUMPER) EIB. That goes with their way of naming male children at that time. The first son was named after the paternal grandfather, and the next son was named after the father. Have no documented proof, as stated before, do not know what happened to John Peter Eib; But I believe him to be the one that joined the militia of Lancaster County, Penn and served in 1778. He was living in Warwick Township, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania at the time of the American Revolution. Also, a Matthias Eib was living there at that time, and he also served in the American Revolution.
Have no documented evidence as to whom Jacob married. We do know that she was named Maria Catharine and the family records said it was Carpenter as Nicholas Carpenter, who bought the land in Harrison County, Virginia had a daughter named Catharine, they thought she was his daughter. But, this could not be, for Catharine, born CA 1770, daughter of NICHOLAS CARPENTER and MARY WOLFE, married a DAVID SLEETH. No marriage records has ever been found.
As the above, NICHOLAS CARPENTER, is supposed to be from a line of Carpenters of English descent, and Maria Catharine, wife of JACOB EIB, was
supposedly of German descent, and as stated on pg 129 of a Genealogical
History of the Reboboth Branch of the Carpenter Family, by Amos B.Carpenter
quote, "The above account of the family was given to the writer by DAVID
CARPENTER, grandson of NICHOLAS, when he was 80 years of age. The tradition by him was that three brothers came from Germany. Their names were CHRISTOPHER,EMANUEL and DAVID. DAVID went south and was never heard from , EMANUEL setted in Pennsylvania and his heir are there yet." EMANUEL could be the father of MARIA CATHARINE CARPENTER.

THE EIB FAMILIES OF AMERICA BY GERALD S. BIRUM, RR #2, BOX 13-B, Ridgeville, in Film 47380 (above information extracted from that source in library).
Included in that record are many court records from Harrison County,Virginia Pg 72 and on. pg 71
"At this point, am inserting several pages of court records that Al Stonestree found in the Chancery Court Records, Harrison County, Virginia. Am not inserting all the documents that he sent me. We have him to thank for the following documents. Most of these documents are hard to read and it took lots of time for the documents to be transcribed, etc." "In order to understand what has happened to JACOB EIB and his wife, MARIA CATHERINE, and their son, PETER EIB, these documents have to be part of this book. Some of these documents involve JACOB, and others directly or indirectly involve both PETER, his son JACOB, and helps to understand why JACOB left his son, PETER, out of the will that JACOB made in 1825." "What I'm going to write now about the times that involve the families of JACOB and MARIA CATHARINE EIB.
We know that the EIB'S were of German descent, and that the CARPENTER'S that settled in Harrison County, Virginia were of English descent and according to the family records that have been handed down from generation to generation, MARIA CATHARINE was also of German descent. At that time and many years after, the Germans, that came over, were not well liked, and many of the English tried to take advantage of them. As I see it, that is what has taken place with the JACOB EIB families." "The documents will begin in Warrington (Washington) in 1802, York County, Pennsylvania. According to the documents, JACOB EIB, owned 105 acres of land in Washington Township, York County, Pennsylvania .(This county lays close to Latimore Township, which became part of Adams County in 1800, where according to records three of JACOB and CATHARINE'S oldest children were baptised. The first document is JACOB EIB buying a small acreage in 1801, and part of it is what he sold in January,1805."

Pg 72 "At this point will insert what took place after they went from York County, Pa to Harrison County, Va, later that spring in 1805. Both Jacob and his wife were very dissatisfied in what they found concerning the Elijah Barkley place they had traded for. The improvements were not what they were told, and the land was full of Gulley's and a large Hill. They lived in their wagons for several weeks and Catharine told Jacob, she would not live there. The following documents to that effect and getting the David Carpenter place instead, and how Adam Hickman, later in four or five years, decided that the trade for the Carpenter place was not legal according to law and the many suits and counter suits that follow for several years."

pg 630
ZIMMERMAN, Henry (Carpenter), the progenitor of the numerous Carpenter family of Lancaster county, was a native of the canton of Berne, in Switzerland, and emigrated to this country about 1710. According to an old order of William Penn, the names of all persons to whom grants of land were made were Anglicised, and hence the name was changed to that of Carpenter. Henry Zimmerman was allowed to take possession of several hundred acres of land, provided he went sixty miles west of Philadelphia. The cause of his emigration was repugnance to persecution, and being a member of the German Reformed church his friends desired to force him to unite with those of their opinions in persecuting others. This did not seem to him as accordant with the spirit of christianity, and to escape this he resolved upon coming to America. To detain him his friends meditated seizing his wife, and thus they thought to prevent his going. She, however, resolved to follow her husband. He accordingly, in secret, obtained a small boat and fixed it upon the shore of the lake of the four cantons. They awaited a favorable opportunity, and finally left their home to escape, by means of the boat, forever from the land of their birth. Henry armed himself, and not in vain, with a sabre, for they were attacked on the road by four hussars, who wished to prevent their departure. Tracition says, with Salome clinging to her husband for protection, he successfully combated his four assailants, and succeeded in escaping, both himself and wife, in their little boat, to a more hospitable shore. Henry Zimmerman was a carpenter by trade, and going from Switzerland to England on his way to America, he was presented with a large auger and other tools by Queen Anne, to enable him to carry on his trade in America.

They awaited a favorable opportunity, and finally left their home to escape, by means of the boat, forever from the land of their birth. Henry armed himself, and not in vain, with a sabre, for they were attacked on the road by four hussars, who wished to prevent their departure. Tradition says, with Salome clinging to her husband for protection, he successfully combated his four assailants, and succeeded in escaping, both himself and wife, in their little boat, to a more hospitable shore. Henry Zimmerman was a carpenter by trade, and going from Switzerland to England on his way to America, he was presented with a large auger and other tools by Queen Anne, to enable him to carry on his trade in America. Have a wonderful 4th of July. God bless America, may she always be free. May the people trust in God forever, for he is the answer to all the problems that face us.
Love, Your cousin, Ellie

HISTORY OF CUMBERLAND AND ADAMS COUNTIES, PENNSYLVANIA
(Chicago: Warner, Beers & Co., 1886)

Book is not indexed, page 298:

"Mount Olivet Reformed Church dates back to March 19, 1745, when a Reformed
and Lutheran congregation was organized. For nine years services were held
in private houses until April 15, 1754, when Long Green Union Church was
dedicated. In 1795 the church known as "Lower Bermudian" was erected on
the site of Long Green Cabin, and the Lutherans and the Reformed Society
worshipped here until 1871, when the new church of Mount Olivet was built,
by the Reformed Society, near the site of the "Lower Bermudian".

The Lutheran Society was organized in March, 1745, as related above, and
the history of the buildings is the same as that of the Reformed Church
down to 1871. After the separation of that year the Lutherans continued to
worship in the "Lower Bermudian" until December 6, 1879, when their new
building, "Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church" was completed and dedicated.
This building stands almost on the site of the buildings of 1754 and
1795."

Hi Ellie,
We really are cousins I wrote you Friday night after receiving your e-mail however it was returned this morning. I had an o instead of a in yahoo. Jacob and Catharine are also my 4th g grandparents through Susan. I have been
researching my Bond ancestors and discovered that my ggg grandfather Levi Bond married Susanna Eib. This is the information I have on Susan. Levi Bond married Susanna Eib May 3rd. 1807 in Clarksburg, Harrison County, VA/WV.
I have names of seven children. I am uncertain if there were more children.
Jacob born 1808
Broomfield born 1810
Richard M born 1814
John born 1820
Susannah born 1828
Elizabeth born 1830
Amenda born 1831
Susan Eib Bond died February 23, 1876 in Lewis County, WV. She was 90 years ,
4 months and 5 days old. She is buried in Broad Run Cemetery, Lewis County,
West Virginia. Row 6
Levi Bond is also buried in Broad Run Cemetery, Lewis County, West Virginia
Most of my information came from H.C.P.D. Library in Horner, West Virginia.
Lewis County Courthouse, Birth, Death and Marriage Records.
I was fortunate to receive a packet of information on the Bond Families they
were pioneers in the Lost Creek Area of Harrison County. This gave me a lot
of information on my research.
Do you have the names of Jacob and Catharine's parents. I would appreciate
any background information you are willing to share. Would you have any
suggestions how I might obtain information on my Eib Ancestors?
Sincerely,
Cousin Wilma

This building stands almost on the site of the buildings of 1754 and
1795."

Elizabeth KNEISELE of George and Susan, born April 12, 1799, baptized June 10, 1799. (names of sponsors not given)

Anna Maria KNEISELE of George and Anna, born December 1, 1800, baptized June 9, 1801. (names of sponsors not given)

Susan EIB of Jacob and Catherine, born October 8, 1786, baptized December 15, 1795. (That's what it says)

Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, City of York. The claim of 1733 as the year of its founding is based on a register which Casper Stoever recorded baptisms of which the earliest was 1733. Dr. Glatfelter makes the point
that "all but one or two of the more then one hundred baptisms performed through June 29, 1740 which Stoever entered into the Yorktown registers he also entered - and most certainly previously - into the Lancaster register.
Almost all of the baptisms performed between September 1740 and October 1741 which Stoever enetered into the Yorktown register he also entered -again, surely previously - into his private register. The entries in the
Yorktown register prior to December 16, 1741 appear to have been entered at the same time, according to Dr. Glatfelter. This evidence clearly suggested that Stoever regarded the Lutherans in the Yorktown area as part
of the Lancaster congregation until circa 1741.
