Notes:
Old letter dated 1850 from Brinton Post Office, Champaign County, Ohio from William E. Reed (who took the name Reed from a step-father),a nephew of Pearson B. Holden (sisters son). "I am a son of Jemima Holden's.
Irvine C. Barnette and my mother have been dead 17 years and I was left with a stepfather. Of course you know him, Thomas Reed."
Note: It is possible that Irvine C. Barnette was his father...More research needs to be done to see if there is a marriage record possibly in Harrison County, Virginia before they went to Ohio.

Note: It sounds like the parents may have died together and a small child (about 3-4 yrs old) was left and raised by Thomas Reed.....He must have thought so much of Thomas Reed that he took his name. It is not certain if there was a marriage between his mother, Jemima, and Thomas Reed.....although he is called a step-father. Needs more research.
