William PETTEE
Settled in Weymouth near 1638. Died there between 14 Apr and 24 Jun1679. The town granted him 10 acres "in Ester neck," three acres "lyingenerethe mill" and five acres "at london Berge." He received lot No. 24in thegreat lots 26 Nov 1651 and 12 acres in the Frist Division and 36in theSecond Division 14 Dec 1663. (Weymouth Land Grants 259, 281, 282,283)His wife was Mary____ who survived her husband. He was a selectmanin1643, 1666, and perhaps other years. In his will he bequeathed tohiswife Mary, to his eldest son Joseph, and to his sons Samuel andWilliamand to his daughter Mary, the wife of Henry Adams. Witnesses:JonasHumphrey and William Chard. His inventory was appraised 24 Jun 1679byWilliam Torrey and Jonas Humphrey; sworn to by his son Joseph andhiswidow Mary, 29 Jul 1679 (Morse Genealogical Register 2:148) Hedeposedcalling himself about 72 years of age 30 Jul 1667 (Suffolk CourtFiles ,815, paper 38) Hence he was born near1595. This surname is also found spelled Pattee, Pettee, Pettes, Pettis,Pettey,Petty and Pittee, Pittey. No deed of grantor to land inWeymouth, 1793 to1849.

Cemetery reads "Here lyes y Body of William Pittee dec'd June y 6th1728in y 68th Year of his age." He was a weaver and syled Sergeant. Hemadehis will 12 Mar 1728 and it was proved 17 June 1728. In thathebequeathed to his wife Mary, to his son Nathaniel, to his daughtersMaryHolbrook and Ruth Whitman each L20 and to his daughter DeliverancePetteeL60. His sons James to have the remainder and be executor.Witnesses:John Torry, Eben Bicknell and Paul Torrey (Suffolk Probate,26:308)
