Short story by Cassie Weeks while in High School:
They had only been married for 2 hours and already he wanted to leave her  He would go to California, strike it rich, and send for her.  Beginning his travels in Illinois, he went through storms, drought and desert to get to California.  Finally, Lucy received a letter of welcome from thomas, after a few years.  In 1853, she began her trip to meet him.  Lucy traveled the East coast by stage coach, took a boat down to the Isthmuzs of Panama, rode a mule to the Pacific Ocean, tok a ship to New Orleans, and then another ship to Sacramento.  Now if that isn't true love, what is ???
Thomas was a great inventor.  His ingenious mind allowed him to build stoves, cupboards, and bring to pass modern conveniences.  One invention of his was the California Pump.  Thank goodness for  Thomas
